Suiting a variety of job roles in the community services industry which may include Assistant in nursing, Community Care Worker, Disability Service Officer, In-Home Respite worker, Accommodation Support Worker, Community House Worker, Lifestyle Assistant, Home Care Assistant, Residential Care/Support Worker.

Entry Requirements

Must be employed in a relevant healthcare related organisation
Must obtain employer approval to participate and complete workplace observations
Be the minimum age of 18 years old
Be proficient in the English language, with a good standard of literacy and numeracy skills
Have access to internet, webcam, email and MS Word, Adobe software and computer no older than 5 years
Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation
If located outside Sydney or Melbourne metropolitan area, must obtain employer and client approval to be videoed for educational outcomes.

Career Opportunities

Designed for those in health and community sectors, working in various care and support roles in the community services industry who wish to develop skills in supporting people to self-administer medication.

Training and Assessment Strategy

Course Duration: 4 – 5 months

eLearning Modules – Learners are required to complete five eLearning modules online, approximately 16 hours duration including formative quizzes. Note: Learners are instructed to complete online learning modules before attending classroom sessions for that unit.

Classroom Session – Learners can attend 3 x 8 hour classrooms sessions to complete theory and simulated practical components of the course.

Coaching Sessions –1:1 Coaching sessions may be scheduled, as required.

Role Plays – Learners must be prepared to complete recorded role plays as a major component of their learning. The learners must also supply and debrief the volunteers required to participate in these role plays.

Workplace Observation – The Trainer/Assessor schedules a visit to each student at their work placement location, where practical demonstration is observed and assessed. If located outside Sydney or Melbourne metropolitan area, then employer and client approval must be obtained to complete videos for educational outcomes.

Role Plays in Assessment

In this course, you will engage in both summative and formative assessments, involving tasks such as writing reports, creating portfolios, and participating in role-playing scenarios. <br>
Additionally, you will undertake various projects requiring independent research and respond to written and oral questions aimed at applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

We strongly encourage you to embrace the role play experience as an opportunity to practice and learn new skills We also recommend that you:

Complete the eLearning modules prior to commencing your assessment
Pair with a study buddy for mutual assistance with assessments and idea sharing.
Access online classrooms where trainers cover course content.
Engage in activities aligned with assessments to enhance understanding and skills.

Role-Playing:
Role-playing is integrated into certain course modules and serves as a practical component of assessments, including those during work placements.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer

RPL

Students who believe they are already competent in parts of the course may apply for RPL. An application for RPL may only be made after enrolment and must be made using the RPL Application Form that will be provided. RPL is a form of assessment and requires the same application of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence which are applied in any form of competency-based assessment.

Credit Transfer

Students who have completed units of this course at other registered training organisations will be given a credit transfer on presentation of a verified transcript, award or Statement of Attainment.
