This skill set reflects the skill requirements for providing person centred support to people with disability in home and community settings. When you complete your Disability Skill Set you can find work in many different areas such as:
– Community rehabilitation and support worker
– Mental health rehabilitation support worker
– Community support worker
– Disability Support worker
Classroom Training – 8 x 8-hour classroom session. Learning activities will reinforce theoretical knowledge, and workplace skills will be practiced and placed into context.
eLearning Modules (CHCDIS007 only) – Learners are required to complete three eLearning modules online, approximately 16 hours duration including formative quizzes. Note: Learners are instructed to complete online learning modules Chapters 1 – 3 before attending classroom sessions for this unit.
Assessment Support Sessions – Assessment support sessions will be offered to support learners in the completion of their assessments. Learners will be invited to attend either face to face sessions or online support sessions.
Coaching Sessions – 1:1 Assessment Support sessions are scheduled, as required with up to 2 x1 hour session per learner over the duration of the course.
Self-paced Learning – Learners are encouraged to undertake 10 hours per week of self-paced learning throughout the duration of the course. This time is allocated to review their learning for the current and upcoming weeks and undertake research to prepare responses to research-based assessment tasks.
Work Placement – A minimum of 40 hours of work placement is undertaken throughout the duration of the course. This time may include classroom training, assessment support sessions (online or in the classroom), 1:1 coaching sessions, completing assessments, self-directed learning activities, self-directed research and work placement.
Workplace Observation – The Trainer/Assessor schedules at least one visit to each learner at their work placement location, where practical demonstration is observed and assessed.
RPL
Students who believe they are already competent in parts of the course may apply for RPL. An application for RPL may only be made after enrolment and must be made using the RPL Application Form that will be provided. RPL is a form of assessment and requires the same application of the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence which are applied in any form of competency-based assessment.
Credit Transfer
Students who have completed units of this course at other registered training organisations will be given a credit transfer on presentation of a verified transcript, award or Statement of Attainment.
