HLTHPS007 Administer and Monitor Medications

This course is designed for community services and health workers with the relevant authority in their state or territory to administer medication and monitor them as per the delegation from a relevant health professional. Suiting a variety of job roles in the community services industry which may include Assistant in nursing, Community Care Worker, Disability Service Officer, In-Home Respite worker, Accommodation Support Worker, Community House Worker, Lifestyle Assistant, Home Care Assistant, Residential Care/Support Worker.

This unit is required in a variety of job roles in the community services industry which may include Assistant in nursing, Community Care Worker, Disability Service Officer, In-Home Respite worker, Accommodation Support Worker, Community House Worker, Lifestyle Assistant, Home Care Assistant, Residential Care/Support Worker.

 

Training and Assessment Strategy

Classroom Training – 3 x 8-hour classroom session. Learning activities will reinforce theoretical knowledge, and workplace skills will be practiced and placed into context.

eLearning Modules (HLTHPS007 only) – Learners are required to complete five eLearning modules online, approximately 16 hours duration including formative quizzes. Note: Learners are instructed to complete online learning modules before attending classroom sessions for that unit.

Coaching Sessions –1:1 Coaching sessions may be scheduled, as required with up to maximum of 1 x 1 hour session per student over the duration of the course

Workplace Observation – The Trainer/Assessor schedules a visit to each student at their work placement location, where practical demonstration is observed and assessed.

Entry Requirements

  • Must be employed in a relevant healthcare related organisation
  • Must obtain employer approval to participate and complete workplace observations
  • Be the minimum age of 18 years old
  • Be proficient in the English language, with a good standard of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Have access to internet, webcam, email and MS Word, Adobe software and computer no older than 5 years
  • Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Evaluation
  • If located outside Sydney or Melbourne metropolitan area, must obtain employer and client approval to be videoed for educational outcomes.

This 2 months course currently costs $450.

You will also receive 12 months membership in our Support Worker Community of Practice.

Role Plays in Assessment

In this course, you will engage in both summative and formative assessments, involving tasks such as writing reports, creating portfolios, and participating in role-playing scenarios. <br>
Additionally, you will undertake various projects requiring independent research and respond to written and oral questions aimed at applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

We strongly encourage you to embrace the role play experience as an opportunity to practice and learn new skills We also recommend that you:

  • Complete the eLearning modules prior to commencing your assessment
  • Pair with a study buddy for mutual assistance with assessments and idea sharing.
  • Access online classrooms where trainers cover course content.
  • Engage in activities aligned with assessments to enhance understanding and skills.


Role-Playing:

Role-playing is integrated into certain course modules and serves as a practical component of assessments, including those during work placements.
